In this workshop we will
explore guiding and hosting in artistic practices. Guiding and
being guided, hosting and being hosted - be it for an event, a
participatory work, an immersive piece or even for a book to
read, these roles blur the boundaries between performance and
facilitation. We will touch on the power relationships of
authority and authorship in these situations but only to
discover that in hospitality, it’s not always clear or important
to always know who is in charge. Rather, hospitality can be a
place of mutual service, where both host and hosted are serving
something more than the sum of themselves.
Practically, this workshop will use Áron’s practice as a guide
and host, and the questions and concerns he’s come across over
the years as conversation starters. The participants will try
out some guided experiences that gently challenge attention,
sensation and perception. After which we will try and look under
the hood, see what artistic decisions can inform the buildup of
such an experience and how this echoes with your practices and
interests. Every activity will be introduced in advance and you
are encouraged to take a step back or change things up if
something is not working for you. By the end I hope for us to
arrive to a point of intimate curiosity with the messy realities
of coming together.
